Autumn Term 1, Week 6 - W/c 06.10.25
In English this week, we began reading our new book ‘Puffin Peter’. The children practiced using talk buttons and sound mats to write single clause sentences. We also practiced using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. In Maths, we started looking at regrouping whole numbers into 2 parts and 3 parts. We used part whole models and cubes (cherry models) to show our regrouping practically. In Science, we went on a tree hunt around our school to look for evergreen and deciduous trees. We found out deciduous trees lose their leaves and evergreen trees keep their leaves all year round! A very exciting and busy week of learning in Year 1!

Autumn Term 1, Week 5 - W/c 29.09.25
This week we were introduced to Time Travelling Ted. Time Travelling Ted helps us learn about the past. We learnt about The Gunpowder Plot that happened a long time ago. We recalled what happened during the plot within discovery and even practiced sequencing it in chronological order. In English, the children wrote short gardening instruction captions for ‘How to Plant a Bean’. These will now go in a special gardening book for our reading area. In Maths, we explored ordering different values of number that were not in consecutive order using tens frames and dominoes.

Autumn Term 1, Week 4 - W/c 22.09.25
In English this week, the children have been practicing caption writing. We have been writing short caption instructions for Jasper to plant his bean. We have also been practicing gardening to write our own class gardening book next week. In Maths, we have been using a beadstring to practice finding one more and one less with numbers up to 10. In Geography, we have been making a map of our local area Woodhall Farm making sure we include all key features such as school, the Community Centre, dentist, shops and doctors. We even added symbols to our map!

Autumn Term 1, Week 3 - W/c 15.09.25
This week the children began their weekly challenges during discovery time. We have been so impressed with the children’s independence! They have been labelling parts of a flower, retelling their address and exploring purple mash on the chrome books. In English, we began to look at the book Jasper’s Beanstalk. We have practiced labelling different gardening equipment and using capital letters for days of the week. In Maths, we have been exploring the quantity of number through subitising and rearranging.

Autumn Term 1, Week 2 - W/c 08.09.25
The children have had a great start to Year 1 and settled in very well. This week we have been exploring our new classrooms during discovery time. We have been writers, designers, mathematicians, artists and builders! We began our new topic with a treasure hunt around the playground. Each clue led us to a photograph of feature in our local area. We learnt that we live in Woodhall Farm and even started to learn our home address!
