Nursery Rhymes

Nursery rhymes are important for young children because they help develop an ear for language. Both rhyme and rhythm help children hear the sounds and syllables in words, which helps children learn to read! The teachers have chosen some nursery rhymes for you to share with your child. There are links to the rhymes on You tube if you are unfamiliar with them. Enjoy!

Autumn Term 1, Week 6 - W/c 06.10.25

Nursery - 10.10.25

Autumn Term 1, Week 5 - W/c 29.09.25

We have been working on being more independent: we have learnt how to put on our own coats, we have practised getting our snack and also washing up after ourselves; and we have been embedding our routines of the day, being able to follow the routines with less instructions.

Our story of the week was 'Owl Babies' by Martin Waddell. We have learnt how to use the PVA glue carefully to stick feathers and brown paper onto our owls, we have used white paint on pom poms to make an owl on dark paper, and we have retold the story in our groups by looking at the pictures.

This week, we have also been introduced to our 'mini mes' ...our pictures on a small wooden blocks that we can use in our play. We have taken them on aeroplane adventures, created small homes with the toy furniture for them to play in and have also made zoos and farms for the mini mes to visit.

Autumn Term 1, Week 4 - W/c 22.09.25

This week, we have continued to learn our new routines and form friendships with some of our peers. We have talked about our facial features and have drawn our own faces. We have also started looking at our family photos and talking about our family members. We made representations of our families with the small figures.

Outside, we have enjoyed making small obstacle courses and have been practising our travelling and balancing skills whilst walking over crates and planks. We have also played in our role play shed which was a tea shop this week.

Autumn Term 1, Week 3 - W/c 15.09.25

Our first full week of nursery has been a massive success and we are all so proud of how the children have settled into our Holtsmere community!

We have spent the week getting to know everyone's names; learn the different areas of the classroom and garden, and explore these areas; learn which groups we are in; and understand how to be a good listener (crossed legs, quiet lips, listening ears and hands in laps). We have also talked about keeping our environments safe by tidying away our toys when we have finished. We have learnt the phrase 'Choose it, use it, put it away' and will continue to practice this over the next few weeks.
